Ensuring employees with disabilities have the right tools and an accommodating environment in which to work can be a tough job for a manager.

Finding companies that have accessible systems, services and products may require a certain amount of hunting. But there's good news: Industry Canada has a database that can help. The Canadian Companies Capabilities (CCC) Database is an on-line database with thousands of Canadian businesses and over 200,000 products and services. It helps connect buyers and distributors, helps you find supply sources, partners, agents, joint ventures and more.

To find a company or companies that address specific needs, visitors to CCC can search the database by category. Industry Canada's Assistive Devices Industry Office (ADIO) was responsible for the inclusion of a set of assistive device-specific category tags to the database and from the ADIO Web site , you can link to a dynamically generated list of more than 150 Canadian assistive device companies, which can be searched either alphabetically (the whole list) or by type of disability addressed (Alternative and Augmentative Communications, Blind and Low Vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing or Mobility).

Companies and institutions can register on CCC free of charge by visiting the ADIO Web site and clicking on "Register, update or view Assistive Device companies". People searching for assistive device companies can find them by using this link too.

Listing on CCC is a way for companies to make sure their potential customers and partners know they're in the assistive technology business. A CCC listing gives companies and their products free exposure to the world through the Internet and information from CCC is frequently used by Canadian Embassies and trade offices to provide foreign companies, institutes and governments with leads on developers, suppliers and potential partners.

Registration on CCC is quick and easy. It is important to provide as much pertinent information as possible and to update it regularly.
