Disability Types

This section provides a listing and definition of general disability categories.

The following links will appear beside an item in the list if the database contains relevant information:

  • Choose  Definition  for a short description of the item.
  • Choose  Requirements  for details to add to a contract.
  • Choose  Prerequisites  for things to consider before purchasing.

A list of sub-categories will usually appear once you have selected a major disability category. Associated with most subcategories will be a list of assistive devices or services that may be used to help overcome barriers to the use of standard technology or services. Information provided will generally become more specific the further down you drill into the database.

Please note:
  • The products listed for a given disability type are not necessarily the only products available: our list is not comprehensive.
  • Not all the products listed are necessarily required for the particular disability: what is required will vary with the individual's abilities and the requirements of their job.
  • Before purchasing any assistive technology the person — and job — in question should be evaluated by a qualified rehabilitation or workplace assessment professional.
